Exchange cage
You swap your tank for a pre-filled one. The tank is typically filled to 15 lb, but you pay the flat “20 lb tank” price. Convenient, open late — and the most expensive way to buy propane per gallon.
Refill stations · Per-gallon prices · Dated & sourced
An exchange cage charges you a flat price for a tank that is typically filled to only 15 lb. A refill station fills your own 20 lb tank all the way — about 4.7 gallons — and charges by the gallon. The catch: almost nobody publishes refill prices. We collect them city by city, and every price on this site carries its source and the date it was checked.
Sorted first, labelled honestly. This is a real, sourced data point — not an average and not a “typical” price.

An attendant fills a standard 20 lb tank to capacity — about 4.7 gallons — and you pay per gallon. You keep your tank and get roughly a third more propane than an exchange tank holds.
A $1/gal spread between stations is worth about $4–$5 on every 20 lb fill. Propane is a repeat purchase — monthly to seasonal for grills, heaters, RVs and forklifts — so the spread adds up over a year.

A $/gal price with a named source and a verification date. Prices visibly age after 30 days and drop to “last reported” after 90 days.
A price a visitor says they paid. Published clearly labelled reported by a visitor, unconfirmed until it is verified.
The station refills tanks, but no price is published and none has been verified. We say “call for today's price” — we never fill the gap with an invented number.
Our model market is Shasta County, where a local tracker lists 18 refill stations and 13 refill prices across Anderson, Redding, Cottonwood, Bella Vista and surrounding communities — every price with a “last verified” date. That is the standard this site follows nationally.
U-Haul is the one major chain that publishes a live per-gallon price for each location. Orlando-area location pages listed $3.95–$4.25/gal in Oct 2026. We show that as a labelled range and explain how to check your own location.
Launch coverage is deliberately limited. We would rather publish a few prices we can source than hundreds we cannot. Coverage grows city by city — see the methodology and honest coverage note.
Propane refill is a repeat purchase and prices move. If you refilled recently, reporting your price takes under a minute and helps the next person in your city.
